HELLO COCKODOODLE DO

When I was a little girl, we used to go and visit with some friends of my parents at a place called The Corran, which was in Wiarton, Ontario. The home, a 17 room mansion, belonged to Alexander McNeil, and it's quite a historical place now. Only, I seem to remember him called Malcolm McNeil, so not sure if he was Alexander's son.

My blog today, I was just going to tell you a story about the huge big rooster that would head right for me and chase me everywhere around a place we often visited as a child, called the Corran, in Wiarton, Ontario. He never bothered chasing anyone but me. But as I started to write you a little story about that miserable rooster (seeing as I have a rooster picture up) it reminded me of those long ago days. So for fun, I then "Googled" "The Corran, Wiarton, Ont" and was very surprised at all the information and pictures and even stories on YouTube, regarding the Corran that is available! Sadly however, all but stone walls are all that's left standing now. But so much is written about it, and to think I was there when it was a very different place in time. There is so much history regarding this place, so if you are interested, just Google it and go have a peek.

I just think it's amazing, that I was actually inside the Corran, had many dinner's there, and remember what it looked like inside, and now it's such a part of history. I think I have one or two pictures of the Corran in it's hay day, so will post them when I go home to Belleville in September and come back with my stash of pictures.

Sally Simmons, who was the housekeeper was a very good friend of my mothers and both from Ireland years before. I can remember it being dark and very cool inside the Corran on a blistering hot day. Antiques filled the house to the brim. I remember Mr. McNeill, a very old man who sat on the porch, probably laughing at this rooster on the chase of a frightened little girl!

Soon as I finish this, I'm going to search the different sites and learn more then I knew or was interested in as a child.

Tom's sister and husband, Isabelle and Ken are coming over this afternoon and we are all going out for dinner. I hope they arrive soon as my eyes are slowly trying to close on me.

The day started out with rain, but it's lovely out there now. The Ambleside celebrations continue until Sunday, so they've been really lucky with the weather for the events. I wish I'd paid more attention to the flyer of events. I missed a whole lot, I would have like to have taken part in.

Well, not much more to tell you about and I'm going to be tired when we get home from dinner, so I'm doing this now! I'll take pictures and show you tomorrow!

Bye for now...Enjoy the weekend

BEIJING OLYMPIC GAMES

The opening ceremonies are on TV at the moment, and will be on for some time for this evening, and as I always enjoy watching the ceremonies and some of the games, my blog is going to be short tonight. That's partly true.....the other part of this truth is I had two Fuzzy Navel drinks last night and woke feeling I'd been shot with a bullet through my right temple, and my tummy is feeling very fragile...then I remembered all the summer sausage I ate along with it. Not a great combination, I've decided today. I've been feeling punky all day, so after my walk came home and went to bed, where I slept all day. Now, I'm dealing with grouchiness that comes on strong whenever I afternoon nap! I can now recall what PMS was like!!
Way to go, to Patrick, my nephew who go to rub shoulders and have a long conversation with one of his Motown hero's Smokey Robinson, last night after a concert in Sand Point, Idaho, last night.
Remember all those great songs "Tracks of My Tears, Tears of a Clown, I Second the Emotion, and one of my favourites Cruisin!"
Pat is a popular disc jockey there and loves it when he has the opportunity to meet with the singers of the songs he spins.
Last night, Patricia and I went down to take in the concert at the Harmony Festival, going on until the 10th. We tried a little Salsa dancing then moved on to the concert going on and enjoyed it very much. (pictures tomorrow)

It was a group called Outlaw Social. A five piece band. Their repertoire included powerful and original sounds of traditional music, a few very beautiful and truly inspired gospel music. Great voices and very enjoyable on a beautiful night by the water, with a big half moon in the sky.
WEll, there is just too much to watch on tv and I can't concentrate, so will say goodnight for now. Hope you enjoy the games too!!

FEELING BLUE

Crap!! So much for Lucky Linda

So much for all that luck I felt ! I had one number in that crappy lotto!! I should know better then to put my money into that thing!
I was in the Mall today, looking at things I could have bought and thinking what a great time I could be having with $43 million, but then again, I thought...ahhh, what a whole lot of trouble and time it would be picking out a mansion, and even more of a problem sticking to a theme for decorating it! I'd probably have to buy a warehouse to house all the junk I bought every time, I saw something else that was so very pretty....so very, very pretty and felt I couldn't do without!!

It's all material stuff anyway, and who needs it? Does it sound like I'm trying to convince myself??....maybe a little!!

I'm happy in my little nest in the sky with my Love Bird with me! What more could one ask for?

So, this morning, I went off with 5 of my chums and we had lunch at Lynn Valley and got caught up on all of summer happenings and what's in store for the near future. I had my camera with me and would you believe....forgot to use it!! We we're just too busy chatting and eating I guess. I had delicious perogies, loaded with onions and sour cream!! Yummmm!!!!

As soon as I finish today's blog, I'm getting dinner ready (leftovers), then I'm meeting a friend down by the water for tonights concert. This Harmony Arts event has been going on all week, and will continue all weekend. We are lucky enough to be able to sit on the balcony and if the wind is blowing our way, we get to hear the music. Some of it is great, and some, I'm glad when the wind blows away from us!! They have live music of some sort going all all day it seems. When I drove by at 11:15 this morning, a band was playing. So, we'll go down and take in whatever is playing tonight. They also have movies on a huge big screen like a drive-in. No mosquitoes here either. I haven't seen one all summer!!

The sun continues to shine here and it's very warm today, so will be great on our lawn chairs, by the ocean and tapping our toes!!

See you tomorrow!!!

ANOTHER DAY IS THIS CRAZY WORLD

The day started with both Tom and I sleeping in! For some odd reason, the neighbourhood was still quiet at 8:30 and we both enjoyed a longer sleep-in. We had that groggy sort of feeling that usually accompanies too much sleep on a very warm morning, so we decided we'd just have a lazy stay at home day, and be more or less "slugs." We had our usual bowl of cereal, and in my foggy haze, even managed to peel some peaches to top our Cheerios. Then we migrated to the living room chairs to watch The View. During the break, on came the huge lotto winning advertisement of $43 million up for grabs. This overwhelming feeling of being very lucky today came over me, and I sat dreaming of how I'd spend it....then.....wait a minute.....I don't have a ticket!! Drats!! That means, I have to get dressed and go out. Did I really feel all that lucky, after all?? Naw....it wouldn't happen to me...I'd never win that jackpot, in fact I haven't won a thing since living in BC. Ontario was kinder to me and when I last had this "Lucky" feeling, I went right over to the store awashed in feeling like I had lucky fairy dust sprinkled all over me and bought a ticket and won $1,700. So, I wrestled these thoughts back and forth, and finally jumped up and decided I was getting dressed, makeup, the whole sch mere and go out and seek my fortune!

When I got to where I buy the tickets, there was no parking, in fact quite a traffic congestion was going on, so decided to go get some needed groceries and pick up the ticket on the way home.

Tom asked me to stop at the liquor store as well, and voila....a nice parking space awaited me, so as I get out of the car, I'm noticing, something doesn't feel right with my clothes, and was cursing myself under my breath from eating to much lately. Went to put the keys in my pants pocket, but my pockets were backwards. Ohh my gosh, I had my pants on backwards, and that's why the big bulge in the front was, where my rear should have been! What to do?? I tried to pull my shirt down as far as it would go, to cover the backward pockets and bulge where my bum should be and sort of slunk down and did this crazy walk into the Liquor Store. Once in there, I asked a female worker if they had a washroom I could use. She gave me the once over as she was deciding if she should let a customer use it, when I told her what my problem was. She did another once over and started to laugh and told me I could use this room, but because of the STUFF back there, she would have to stay in the room. I didn't care, so off came the pants, turned them around and all was right in my world again!

So, I'm in Safeway, and they have three express lines open and one normal line and it had a young Japanese woman, who is just learning how to check out groceries. She has a older woman customer, who wanted her groceries delivered, so this was something she hadn't come across yet, so she fumbled and fumbled while I set my groceries out of the cart and onto the check-out belt. I bet I stood there for 15 minutes. Finally, one customer got mad and demanded to see the manager and started hollering at him "How come there were only 3 express lanes open and only one main one, does everyone think I have all day?" she hollered at the top of her lungs. Immediately another line opened, but I already had my stuff up on the checkout, so had to stay, while I waited and waited!! Finally....my turn!! She was Soooo slow!! But, I understood and tried to have patience, all the time, rolling my eyes at the next lady who was off loading her cart, next to my groceries. Then I had some pork chops that had a 50% off sticker on it. She tried to tear it off to get to the code under it, but was having difficulty and now she's struggling and now the lady behind me is rolling her eyes at me , and we are both sort of snickering, another clerk, came up and shut the light off at my checkout station and told the Japanese girl to go for break. My check out gal, turned it back on, the clerk, turned it off, and I swear....that light was turned off and on by both of them at least 15 times while they argued! This was getting to be fun to watch!! The clerk was warning the girl that she was going to get herself fired, she was to go on her break, and off went the light. The girl, said she wasn't finished and snapped in on. The clerk told her she never listens and to get going, she would finish, and snapped off the light! On it went again, as soon as the clerk left. Finally, she finished off me, turned to the other lady behind me and said. "Could I help you?" The lady waved her hands over the groceries and gave her the hint, that yeah....check these out, I've been waiting for 20 min. So, I'm loaded up, and about to leave, when the lady who had been hollering about too many express lanes open, started to holler again, and again demanded to see the manager. I couldn't leave YET....this was too much entertainment!!! She was mad because she wanted DEPENDS, and when they are advertised on sale, they never have size small! Boy, was she mad!!! So, I leave at this point. When I bring the cart back, the light is still on at my checkout and the Japanese girl is checking out someone else!!! Well, that was a fun shopping trip!!

So, I get in my car, stop at the 4 way stop and notice across the road, sitting in the shade are 3 OPP motorcycles and a cop car. They are either having a parley in the shade or watching the traffic. Good thing I stopped and waited out my turn! I made the turn, and just about took out a pedestrian who stepped out. But Lucky Linda, missed him and the cops stayed put!!! Yup, it's my lucky day...onward to buy the lotto ticket that's going to make us a multimillionaires!!!

What luck...a parking spot is open!!! I go in and the lineup is a mile long. One woman bought $200 in lotto tickets. One hundred, she used her bank card, the other $100 was bought with change!!! Ohh lordy!! I think I need to pee now and I'm standing with my legs tightly wrapped around one another and squeezing tight!

Well, I got my ticket...two of them, just to be sure!!! So, Lucky Linda's world is going to change forever when they draw my lucky numbers tonight!!! Also, I made it to home and to pee...Luck is still with me!!

And if should leave me tonight, and the fairy dust disappears, then Good Luck to all the rest of you with lotto tickets!!!

IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME

IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME!!!

Another beautiful day on the West Coast of Canada!! The day has been lovely and warm, with not a cloud in the sky! How long will it last??

Blogger is working today with pictures, as you can see. Part of the fun of doing this blog is hunting for cute little pictures, otherwise, I may not be doing this!!

Just a normal day for us! We watch 'The View" and then our day begins. I walked a HOT walk to the Mall today to meet Hubby, at the chiropractor. You must think he lives there! Next week, we see the specialist for his epidural of cortisone in his back to hopefully help the pain in his one leg that's been plaguing him for a year or more now. I'm so hoping it will work and our life can return to how it was, with walks and poking around stores and interesting places together.
So, please everyone....PRAY!!

Then we went to our next favourite haunt..The Library!! They have this little court out back, that I love to sit and drink coffee and just enjoy sitting on the ground level with plants around me and trees above me, instead of on the 7Th floor balcony, looking down at the world below!

Have a look! It's peaceful, shady and lovely out here. I pretend it's my garden!!
Leave me alone!! I'm trying to read!!!
Okay, then, I'll shoot this bee!! Can you find it? It wouldn't stay still for me!

Is that ME?? Ohhh my GAWD!!! I wish Tom would learn to take better shots!! Or is it the subject that's very NON- photogenic?
This is a shot I took yesterday. A statue of a little old lady on a park bench, down by Stanley Park. She's looking for something in her purse, but people passing by, usually pick a few flowers and set it in her hand. I think it's so sweet and just love it!
So, that's the blog for today. Now, I have to go make dinner. Potato salad, and chicken fingers.
Bye for now!

COMPUTER PROBLEMS

Wow, I must have blown out my computer with those pictures I put on the blog yesterday, or else God is giving me a thump on the head!!!
I don't know if it's the Blogger program I use, or what, but we went out this morning and I left the computer on, as I usually do, and when I returned, I had the dreaded BLUE SCREEN!!!
To put it all in a nutshell, I can't get ANY graphics or pictures to load!!
I also did some trial and error things on the computer this morning and it must have made big errors, if that's the problem, but sometimes Blogger has problems and it's not known until someone reports it.
Not to worry, I'll just tell you about our weekend. First let me tell you what a fabulous, fun filled weekend it was from breakfast on Sat. morning, to touring the Harmony festival, just down the street and seeing all the displays and hearing right from our place all the music and concerts. The festival continues the entire next week as well! Then also the fabulous fireworks display, between Canada, USA and China....Canada won by the way!!
Yesterday, we had a blast at the Gay Pride Parade, that is a must to see at least once! Then, we came home and ate delicious rack of lamb, and new potato's and mmmm was it good!! We felt sun struck and tired after sitting for a few hours in the sun and it was great to crawl between cool, lovely sheets when we finally went to bed. Tom looks like a movie star with his great tan today. I'm as white as ever due to slathering on sunscreen. The sun is my enemy!!
Today was another fun day, going with Bill and Dianne for our monthly lunch at a different restaurant. I love Bill and Dianne and have such a good time with them. They restore my soul in a big way, as the conversations are as much fun as when the gang gathered around either at work breaks, or lunches at Loyalist, which I miss so much! I always hate to say goodbye to Bill and Dianne.
Today, it was Tom's pick of restaurants and he picked a new Irish Pub called Dublin Crossing. What a beautiful pub and it felt just like being in Ireland. Check it out at www.dublincrossing.com We are sure returning to that PUB!!!
Do you know that on September 13th, we are half way to St. Patricks Day!!!
Remember that Roxanne, and lets get out the Baileys!!!
It's been a beautiful weekend weather wise as well.
I hope all your weekend was happy and full of fun and sunshine.
Hopefully this will be working tomorrow.
To my father....it's been 17 years that you passed away on this long weekend. You are remembered with love.

GAY PRIDE PARADE

Warning: If you arn't prepared to see some naked bodies from todays parade, better just skip this blog! My apologies if offended!
An estimated 500,000 people where at the Gay Pride Parade today in Vancouver. We took the bus down along with our lawn chairs and found a good spot to watch the parade. It was so long....and I mean LONG, that I don't know at what point we decided to call it quits and go home, but it was still going strong when we left, two hours after we arrived. I was thick with sunscreen, but Tom's face is a very rosy brown and looks handsome and healthy! I'm still my white self! But it was getting very hot sitting in the sun and we'd seen enough weird sights for a long time. So, here is a few highlights of the day.

The girl on the back has no top on!!

Could she twirl those things!!

I was kind of partial to these angels!

Indian Pride!!

These can't be real!!!!

Hide your eyes.....NUDE MEN APPROACHING!! (I have a close up of these fellow's too!? Why? I dunno!)

Just having fun!

Lots of pretty colours everywhere!!

Well, that's enough for the blog! It was a fun parade to see, however, one time is enough of me.

But it was cheerful crowd, enjoyed by gays and non gays alike. They also threw colourful beads to the crowd as well as drink samples, razer kits, and gum, and many more little fun things.

Not only was it just the Vancouver Gay community, but from all over British Columbia. The Mayor and notible people in politics and even our Royal Canadian Mounted Police marched. Just a fun day!

I'm tired from sitting in the sun all day and now heading to a nice cool bath. Ambleside also was very crowded it with the craft fair, so it was busy all over BC today.
