SWANS AND DUCKS

Today, Tom and I went for a walk to the dog park, and dog’s where everywhere! However, we were captivated by the huge big swans and beautiful coloured ducks in the pond, and of course I got carried away taking picture after picture of birds!!P1040450

P1040454

What beautiful colours on this duck…a mallard maybe? I don’t know my my ducks, but there had to be a couple different kinds, all with beautiful colours, this one being the prettiest, right down to the little necklace around his/her neck. So lovely looking when the sun hit them and the colour of the feathers just popped out. The swans really took over and would paddle right through a large flock of ducks, scattering every which way. They sure are the King of the pond!!

We’ve had a wonderful run of beautiful warm, sunny days, where you just want to be outside all the time, however, I finally got the ironing done this morning and now we have clothes to wear again! How great is that!!! Tomorrow, the weather is suppose to be light showers, and more rain for the coming week, but these weather forecast are sure never written in stone!!! Just keep our fingers crossed, that we switch back to sunshine again soon.

This sign didn’t turn out too well, but what it says is this:

The Mute Swan has a royal place in English history. it was highly prized and protected for centuries by the Kings & Queens of England as much for the royal banquet table as for their beauty on the water. Here in Canada they are still protected by our own Canadian wildlife regulations

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY

girl smile

What a fantastically, beautiful day! The sun was shining and  it felt warm and glorious to be outside! I wanted to start taking out the patio furniture, plant some Spring flowers in the planters, and get ready for Summer. Tom said, it was too early yet, even though, it seems all the apartment building balcony’s have started to bring out summer furniture, and I see them  sun bathing across the way, not in bathing suits yet, but just laying back, soaking in the rays!!!

We made a trip to Horseshoe Bay for a prescription renewal with our Doctor. I love it out there, especially on a beautiful day. So, I took a few pictures to show you!

Now, I’m going to attempt a video. I hope it works!

ACUPUNCTURE MEDICINE AND TODAYS EVENTS

FACts_medicine3

Tom goes to a wonderful Chinese lady, who is a registered doctor of traditional Chinese medicine, who has helped him with a long ago, painful shoulder that he broke. He’s lived with pain for years, and only has so much mobility in his arm. He’s gone to a chiropractor and it helped some, but finds much more relief and improved range of movement with the acupuncture. He goes at least once a week, and I even tried it one time with a sore knee and really haven’t had any problems since!

We love this little Chinese lady with her friendly ways and the most wonderful little giggle when Tom teases her.

P1040399

Her name is Dr. Jing Zhang, and for the longest time, we could never remember her name, so between ourselves we fondly called her the “Gilly-Gilly” lady. We don’t know where or how we came up with the name, but it seem to stick. She tells Tom stories about her life in China and how she was pulled from school at the age of 12 and made to work on a farm. She told Tom more about herself, but I’m only getting it second hand, so can’t really tell you more, in case I got the story wrong …..especially with my mind becoming so feeble lately!! But, she’s interesting, doesn’t speak English really well, but we think she’s a special lady in how she became a 30 year, BC Registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a Registered Acupuncturist. It would be wonderful to sit down with a cup of tea with her one day and hear her story and her life. The name of her clinic is called Yong Sheng Chinese Clinic. Not only is she very professional, very good at what she does, but a wonderful lady. I sometimes wait for Tom in the car, as her clinic is usually very busy but pop in to say hello before we leave. Isn’t she cute!! We think she’s the greatest!!

Then we went to Brentwood Mall and had lunch, then I did a little browse in Sears, but it’s in between seasons and nothing I saw interested me, except a purse for $45.00. I’ve never paid that much for a purse before, so, slipped away before tempted further.

P1040400

As we walked through Brentwood Mall, I passed this hair dressing shop for KIDS! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing….my goodness, what they don’t think of to keep the young ones occupied and sitting still, while the locks are cut off. Motorcycles, cars and TV’s with kid’s programs!! Wow!!! My hairdresser, only has a cape that goes over you that has a woman’s naked body with perky boobs, and your own head sticking out the top! It’s quite a sight and I wish they could make not only my hair over, but the whole body to look like that! I feel sooo Good looking back at myself in the mirror, and then, they take away the cape and the illusion is GONE….so disappointing!!!

Tonight my favourite show is on TV

SurvivorLogo

Tom and I are in a fun pool and I’m cheering for Joe and Tyson. Tom has his money on Jerry and Debra. The pot has gone up to $250.00, depending on who is wanting to play and throw $5.00 into the pot. We have wonderful people running the pool, who sends us fun updates with comments from the pool players, that are fun to read. I won a few seasons back and thought I had a strategy for choosing the winner, but that was quickly extinguished with following show’s when my picks only lasted a short while. Now, I more or less just take someone cute! Notice I have two guys!! Wish me luck!! Ontario, won the last pot but shared with the BC pool runner!! Great fun!!

MEETING AN AUTHOR

writing a book

Last week, Tom and I happened to be in the West Vancouver Library, (our hangout) and were enjoying a cup of fresh made coffee. Across from us, sat a lady, who commented on how good our coffee smelled. We began talking about other things and throughout our conversation, found we had interests in common! She is from Picton, Ontario, which is only about 3/4 of an hour away from Belleville, Ontario, where I lived and worked from 1975-2005 We have people we both know, some of the same interests, and just enjoyed each other’s conversation. We exchanged phone numbers and she called me the following Saturday to invite me to join her and some other friends for tea…..high tea, no less!! However, Tom and I had prior plans, so had to put it off for another time

Yesterday, an e-mail arrived, that she was going to call and true to her word, she called this morning and we decided, we’d meet over coffee at Starbucks. I think I found a new friend!! Conversation flowed freely and I hated to leave, but Tom was waiting for me and I’m sure she had other things to do as well.

Her name is Elizabeth Blakely, and I knew that she was a published author from our talk at the Library. Today, she brought 3 of her books to show me.

P1040395

P1040397

She is certainly into varied topics and all of her books are very different. Her book, “The Original The incredible Potato” full of healthy cooking with a comprehensive knowledge of nutrition is quite interesting, with delicious, yet simple recipes. As I flip through the book, I ….who hate to cook, feels like cooking!! I find there are so many different types of potato’s on the market now, that, I’m lost as to which kind is best for certain types of cooking. This book solves my problems!! She wrote this book under a different pen name as shown below.

P1040398

Her next book (I’m not sure in which order she wrote them), is called (Garbage and Flowers.. My Year’s Sojourn in the Holy Land) which as on the cover says, Chronicles of the Mind and Emotions. Multi-dimensional Journeys and a Travelogue. It’s a thick book and I love stories of other places, so anxious to start reading of her adventures.

Her last book for the moment is called “Wake” A Spiritual Primer.

I can’t tell you much about this last book, as I don’t have it here, just the other two, one I bought, one she gave me as a lovely gift.

So, if anyone out there would like to contact Elizabeth, her website is:

http://ascensionelizabeth.tripod.com

She’s a busy lady these days as she just moved from Ontario to West Vancouver, found herself an apartment and is moving in March 1st. This Friday, she writes her Real Estate exam, which I wish her luck with.

So, I hope it’s the beginning of a great friendship!

Well, that’s my blog tonight, I keep getting a huge cramp down my left leg which feels like a monstrous knot, on the back of my lower leg….OUCH…I need to walk and not sit!! So with that…have a good night!!!leg%20cramps While I scream in pain!!!!

A MYSTERY TRIP

blindfolded_female

Today, Tom took me on another one of his most delightful mystery trips. He just says, “Come on, let’s go out!” When I ask why, He won’t tell me just get ready and don’t ask questions!

So, we headed out and ended up at a little restaurant over in Vancouver that caught his eye on one of our venture’s over town called “The Dutch Door”. It didn’t look like much from the outside, and the inside, was over decorated with an over abundance of every kind of logo drinking glasses , and menu that had everything you could think of. It was delicious!!

From there, we continued on our mystery tour and ended up at Queen Elizabeth Park, where we had a beautiful view of the city!P1040321
