REMEMBERING JOHN GUTTIN

JOHN GUTTIN
April 1/1940 - March 1/1988

On this day, 20 years ago, we lost someone very special to all of us in the family and is still very much missed and thought about very often.

John was the first child born in Owen Sound, son, of Adolphe and Gladys Guttin, brother to Michael, Linda and Roxanne

Husband to Suzanne Petitclerc and later to Kaye

Father of Patrick, Maryssa, John Jr. and Andrew.

Missed by many Aunts, Uncles, and Niece's and Nephew's and Cousins

Mom with John

Left to Right- Brother Michael, Aunt Irene, JOHN

They were great playmates and share many happy memories.

We were a family of 4, however Roxanne was yet to be born.L-R..Michael, Linda, JOHN

John, was a shy, good looking and very smart lad as you can see. He had skipped a few grades in school. He went to Strathcona School, and then to Owen Sound Collegiate. Loved to play Lacross, and sports. Had a job as a Bell Boy in a fancy hotel, where
he was thrilled to meet Louis Armstrong. John could play
musical instruments by ear, and loved to play the trumpet
and drums.

Michael with JOHN who had joined the Navy. He was on the ship called "The Bonaventure". I didn't see John much after that because of our age difference and our interest. He would come home on leave, and I was dating and oh boy, did he decide which of his buddy's that could go out with his little sister!! I remember he was often out with his friend Errol Hadley. He had met his future
wife while in the Navy. His beautiful French wife, Suzanne Petitclerc who was in the WAVES.

Another picture of the four of us.
Mike, John, Roxanne and Linda

Four children, and now only three.
Our brother died far too young!

Happy times! John, Wanda(Mike's wife) Suzanne (Johns wife), and Mike

John has two children, Patrick and Maryssa with his wife Suzanne. He later had two children with his second wife Kaye. John Jr. and Andrew.

John died at age 48 years old. He woke March 1st, 20 years today not feeling very well and decided to return to bed for a little longer. He had an important meeting at work in the morning, so pushed himself to get up and go to his meeting. When it was over, he mentioned to his Secretary, that he wasn't feeling very good and was going to drive himself to the Brampton Hospital. On route there, while driving on Hwy 43, he had a heart attack, drove off the road
and hit a tree. He left many broken hearts behind.

This is Patrick, John's first born and pride and joy! This is his wife Fran. This is Patricks new family with new wife Fran. Ashley and Dylan (baby) are Patrick's children and his new adopted children are the little ones on the right. (I'm sorry, I don't know their names)

This is Nathan, John and Frans baby
This is Ashley, Patrick's daughter and Johns Grandaughter

John, as I mentioned, also has a beautiful daughter Maryssa and two children. Dylan and Samantha

Maryssa's children Dylan and Samantha (Wouldn't John be proud!)

Johns daughter, Maryssa and her new life beginning with Craig

John Jr. and Andrew's mother Kaye, moved to the U.S. and re-married and unfortunately, there hasn't been much touch over the years, but if they should receive this, please also write.

Suzanne, John's 1st wife, now lives in Montreal with her husband John-Eve's. We are in touch and she is like a loving sister to us

John, all who loved you while you we're with us on earth, we remember you, honour you and love you and miss you!
In Memory of You
I find an old photograph and see your smile. As I feel your presence anew, I am filled with warmth and my heart remembers love.
I read an old card sent many years ago during a time of turmoil and confusion. The soothing words written then still caress my spirit and bring me peace.
I remember who you used to be the laughter we shared and wonder what you have become. Where are you now, Where did you go, When the body is left behind and the spirit is released to fly?
Perhaps you are the morning bird singing joyfully at sunrise, or the butterfly that dances so carelessly on the breeze or the rainbow of colors that brightens a stormy sky or the fingers of afternoon mist delicately reaching over the mountains or the final few rays of the setting sun lighting up the skies edging the clouds with a magical glow.
I miss your being but I feel your presence, In whatever form you choose to take, however you now choose to be.
Your spirit has become for me a guardian angel on high guiding, advising, and watching over me.
I remember you. You are with me and I am not afraid.

Note:
Special thanks to Roxanne, who on quick notice, dropped everything she was doing to find pictures of John to use today, and also to her friend Michelle who kindly scanned them and got them e-mailed to me from Ontario, to B.C.
Because I had to re-edit this page, the comment second is there if you scroll down to it.
thanks

  2. Oh Linda, this made me cry and looking at the pictures has me remembering back to all the wonderful times I shared with Johnny and Mickey, as they were my bestest friends when I was little.

John grew up smart as a whip and a real handsome devil but always so quiet and deep. I loved him like a brother and it was a terribleshock when he died so young.

    A beautiful and loving Tribute!!!

  3. I can't believe it's been 20 years since we lost John, even though the years have flown we will always remember him fondly, many memories come back today of some of the good times we had with him, he was a wonderful nephew. You have done such a beautifull tribute to him Linda, and seeing the pictures does bring some tears to the eyes.

  4. Dear sis; it has been such a long time we have known each other that truly, you and Roxanne are my hear sisters.
The tribute to John is excellent and you are a very good narrator. Thank you so much for the souvenirs of a man that touched all of our lives in different ways. I wonder if he knew how much he was loved and how much regrets he left behind.
I am sure that both Maryssa and Patrick are touched by your IN MEMORIAM.
You know I loved him with all my youth and he has left me with two beautiful children. When I see him again, some day, I hope he will have been proud of all of us and surely, he'll know how much his immediate family cared for him.
    Thank you for the memories.

  5. Hi, Linda... My brother Ted passed your blog on to me. I didn't know of John's passing and am deeply saddened by it. John and I were dear friends and shared many wonderful experiences in Capreol, before he joined the navy. Later, we reunited in Montreal, where I attended his marriage to Suzanne. I have movies of the wedding (on DVD now). I'd love to talk to you and his family.
